Has the 2025 BMW 4 Series been recalled?
1 U.S. safety recall. Repairs are free at a franchised dealer; some are done over the air.
Electrical System: Starter Assembly BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 330i, 330i xDrive, 530i, 530i xDrive, 4 Series Coupe (430i, 430i xDrive), 4 Series Convertible (430i, 430i xDrive), 4 Series Gran Coupe (430i, 430i xDrive) and X3 30 xDrive vehicles. The electrical connection between the starter-generator and battery may come loose.
Risk: A loose starter-generator connection can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, the wiring may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the starter-generator and positive battery cable as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed May 28, 2025. Second letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
Is the 2025 BMW 4 Series recalled in the UK or Europe?
Recalls issued by the UK's DVSA and through the EU's Safety Gate system that cover this model and build period. European models can differ from U.S. ones, and "years estimated" means the recall gave no build dates, so confirm your own car with your registration or VIN.
UK DVSAReplace the Engine Starter Motor
Risk: The Safety Recall relates to the engine starter motor. The fault relates to the RSW22 starter RWT (reinforced water tightness). It was found that with RWT starters an increased abrasion of the magnetic contact can cause the growth of deposits at the lowest point of the relay interior. This in turn may increase the relay contact resistance resulting in false starts or even causing short circuits and possibly a thermal reaction. In case of a short circuit the possibility of a thermal event cannot be excluded. This may happen while attempting to start the vehicle or while driving due to vibrations causing a short circuit due to moving deposits.
Fix: On the affected vehicles the starter motor will be replaced with a variant by another supplier with a different design. Until the repair has been completed it is recommended to not leave the vehicle running unattended after starting the engine.
UK DVSAScrew Connection of the Power Supply
Risk: On affected vehicles the screw connection on the B+ power distributor in the vehicle's boot may have not been properly tightened.
Fix: On affected vehicles the connections will be reworked.

These deposits may increase relay contact resistance, leading to starting failures or short circuits. If a short circuit occurs, either when attempting to start the vehicle or while driving due to vibration-related movement of the deposits, it could cause a thermal event and increase the risk of fire.

While driving at highway speed on [XXX] I went to put my windows up. Without touching anything else my seat moved backward and I was unable to reach either pedal. Fortunately I was able to maneuver to a point where I was able to regain vehicle control. Obviously this was a life threatening situation which could have been disastrous. There was no auto correction by the vehicle. This was reported to BMW of Barrington , IL and serviced on XXX. No specific explanation has been provided. This is just one of many issues with this vehicle that appear to be related, and escalating in severity. I can'tâŠ
This is the third Check Engine, Drive train malfunction, Power Supply error messages popped up. Dealership replaced the battery at the first visit, replaced the starter at the second visit. Error messages appeared one week after the second visit to the dealership.
1 week after the BMW dealer replaced the battery under the warranty (after the car was towed due to the power loss from drive train malfunction) Engine Check, Drive train malfunction, and Oil level measurement inactive signals popped up again.
After the Engine Check and Drivetrain Malfunction signs pop up, and then the vehicle stopped all of sudden on the highway.
We were driving on a local road and saw the car ahead parked at the traffic light. We began to brake from a safe distance. The car began slowing but instead of coming to a full stop, the brake resisted, the car made an odd sound, and instead the car accelerated into the car in front of us. The Tesla in front captured the odd behavior of the vehicle on camera. BMW will perform diagnostics.
On 8/7/2025, I pulled into my driveway very slowly, I didnât have my foot on gas as I just went to our dumpster, and pressed the brake, I through the car was off, and went to exit, instead the car suddenly accelerated i tried to break, but the car didnât stop and smashed into my garage. It is at the dealership, Wesley chapel BMW, they sent me a message that it wonât be ready today because there is recall and an issue but they have not told me what it is. I was researching and i saw whatâs called âsudden unintended acceleration.â
The contact owns a 2025 BMW M440I. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at speeds under 20 MPH, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the tie rod assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,500.
The rear cross traffic alert system on this vehicle (2025 BMW X4) does not work properly even when all systems are turned on (check marked) . No warning visual or audio for example is given when backing out of parking spaces, driveways, etc. and a vehicle is crossing behind your intended path either from right to left or from left to right. We are familiar with how rear cross traffic works as we have it on our 2018 Subaru Outback. This system gives the driver a false sense of security and may lead to serious backing accidents.
