Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series recalled in the UK or Europe?
Recalls issued by the UK's DVSA and through the EU's Safety Gate system that cover this model and build period. European models can differ from U.S. ones, and "years estimated" means the recall gave no build dates, so confirm your own car with your registration or VIN.
UK DVSAChecking and re-securing the air-conditioning wiring harness
Risk: The Safety Recall relates to the air-conditioning wiring harness located behind the dashboard. On the affected vehicles the wiring harness was fixed very close to a screw connection on the interior microfilter housing cover. The microfilter of the air conditioning system will be regularly replaced as part of the oil service. It cannot be ruled out that cables may be damaged when replacing the microfilter during a workshop visit. The filter cover has to be removed from the lower part of the instrument panel. After replacing the filter the cover has to be refitted at which point the wires may become damaged or trapped. If the wiring harness is damaged this could lead to malfunctions of the air conditioning system as well as to a short circuit. In case of a short circuit a sensor may overheat while the vehicle is in operation. As a result smoke may develop from the instrument panel and subsequently a fire cannot be ruled out.
Fix: On the affected vehicles the air-conditioning wiring harness will be checked repaired if necessary and re-secured in a modified fixing.
UK DVSAReplace the Engine Starter Motor
Risk: The Safety Recall relates to the engine starter motor. The fault relates to the RSW22 starter RWT (reinforced water tightness). It was found that with RWT starters an increased abrasion of the magnetic contact can cause the growth of deposits at the lowest point of the relay interior. This in turn may increase the relay contact resistance resulting in false starts or even causing short circuits and possibly a thermal reaction. In case of a short circuit the possibility of a thermal event cannot be excluded. This may happen while attempting to start the vehicle or while driving due to vibrations causing a short circuit due to moving deposits.
Fix: On the affected vehicles the starter motor will be replaced with a variant by another supplier with a different design. Until the repair has been completed it is recommended to not leave the vehicle running unattended after starting the engine.
UK DVSAProgram control units (CoC documents)
Risk: A quality check has revealed that the affected G61 vehicles software does not reflect the associated CoC documentation.
Fix: To ensure your vehicle is in perfect working order we would like to program the control units to adapt the vehicle's software level to the CoC documents. as soon as possible. Naturally this work will be free of charge.
UK DVSAHydraulic Brake System Unit Replacement
Risk: On affected vehicles the brake servomotor was improperly welded. The weld seam might not withstand the stresses caused under high brake pressure leading to a requirement for a higher brake effort increasing the braking distance.
Fix: Affected vehicles will have the hydraulic unit of the brake system replaced.
UK DVSAReplace Double Universal Joint (Steering)
Risk: On affected vehicles there may have been a deviation in the production of the double universal joint on the steering column. Certain steering movements could result in the component failing.
Fix: Affected vehicles will have the double universal joint replaced.
UK DVSAIntegrated Braking System
Risk: On certain vehicles the Integrated Brake (IB) system may be impaired due to contamination between electrical contacts.
Fix: Vehicles that may be affected by contamination are required to have the vehicle’s software updated which can detect signal interference before it occurs. If symptoms are detected you should refrain from use of the vehicle and the affected Integrated Brake (IB) system component will be replaced.
UK DVSAIntegrated Braking System
Risk: On affected vehicles an unexpected loss of hydraulic brake assistance may occur and may result in a different pedal behaviour under specific conditions an extended braking distance may be experienced and ABS/Stability control may be impaired
Fix: On the affected vehicles the Integrated Brake System will be replaced
UK DVSAISOFIX fixing G60
Risk: On affected vehicles the rear seat ISOFIX bracket may have been damaged during the production process and may allow the seat to detach in the event of an accident
Fix: On affected vehicles the ISOFIX fixing will be inspected and if necessary replaced
UK DVSACheck Steering Wheel and Rework Ground Connection
Risk: On affected vehicles the steering wheel ground connection may have been insufficiently fastened during production which may result in the system detecting the hands are on the steering wheel even though they are not
Fix: On affected vehicles the steering wheel ground connection will be checked and if required reworked.

These deposits may increase relay contact resistance, leading to starting failures or short circuits. If a short circuit occurs, either when attempting to start the vehicle or while driving due to vibration-related movement of the deposits, it could cause a thermal event and increase the risk of fire.

Concern: The 2024 BMW 530i is equipped with "Dynamic Cruise Control" and a "Speed Limit Assistant." The system is designed to automatically adopt posted speed limits and adjust the cruise control set speed. However, because this specific trim lacks a radar-based distance-monitoring sensor (Active Cruise Control), the vehicle initiates aggressive, unintended acceleration toward slower-moving traffic or stopped obstacles whenever it detects a higher speed limit sign. Safety Risk: While the vehicle is using its cameras to "see" and adopt an external speed command, it remains "blind" to the actual…
I had stopped uphill, with my foot on the brake, heading East on the left lane of Pomona Road, at the approach to the Traffic Light Junction with Route 45, around 3.50 PM on Friday 1/23/2026. There were about 5-6 cars also stopped, ahead of me, at the Red Traffic Light and several cars behind me, when I heard my car engine rev up loudly. I kept applying the brake. I could hear my car tires spinning with a smell of burning rubber from the tires as they spun on the road, as my car lurched forward, and hit the rear of the stopped car ~ 5-7 feet ahead of me. I felt that I had no control of my car…
Booked the appointment with BMW of Portland for November, 10,2025 For 9 o'clock AM. Arrived at dealership, checked in and left vehicle. I was called about 45 minutes later and informed that they would not be able to preform the recall repair on my car due to parts that were needed and associated with the recall , asked me to pay for it which I refused since it is part of the recall repair. I have never come across a vehicle recall where parts were not covered with the recall. I find this very strange, please investigate.

I reserved this vehicle with a deposit on Oct. 26. At the time I was told the vehicle was under recall/stop sale for a brake issue and I would not be able to take delivery until the recall work was performed. On 11/5, I was able to purchase the vehicle after the repair work was done. After leaving the dealership, about a half mile down the road I received a message on the vehicle display which said "Brake fluid level low. Have the problem checked by the nearest service center." The message also advised that I could continue driving the vehicle. I returned to the dealership and the car was…
PROBLEM: I recently had several incidents when the RAB (rear automatic brake) on the 2024 BMW 540i vehicle DID NOT WORK on multiple occasions. The vehicle never stopped as I backed out of my parking space. Afterwards I tested the RAB by perpendicularly slowly walking behind the car. I had to run out of the way when the vehicle was continuing to move when approximately 12” from me. I tested both vehicles, 540i & X-3, with the same results. As a further test I placed a plastic figure that’s ordinarily used a warning to drivers of children playing in the area. Results while slowly backing was…

Counts are a starting point, not a verdict: popular models collect more complaints because more of them are on the road, and NHTSA does not verify individual reports. To see whether a recall is still open on your car, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (U.S.) or your registration at check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk (UK). Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations and recalls.
