Has the 2023 BMW 7 Series been recalled?
NHTSA lists no safety recalls for the 2023 BMW 7 Series as of October 25, 2026. Recalls can be issued at any time, so check your VIN before you rely on this.
Is the 2023 BMW 7 Series recalled in the UK or Europe?
Recalls issued by the UK's DVSA and through the EU's Safety Gate system that cover this model and build period. European models can differ from U.S. ones, and "years estimated" means the recall gave no build dates, so confirm your own car with your registration or VIN.
UK DVSAChecking and re-securing the air-conditioning wiring harness
Risk: The Safety Recall relates to the air-conditioning wiring harness located behind the dashboard. On the affected vehicles the wiring harness was fixed very close to a screw connection on the interior microfilter housing cover. The microfilter of the air conditioning system will be regularly replaced as part of the oil service. It cannot be ruled out that cables may be damaged when replacing the microfilter during a workshop visit. The filter cover has to be removed from the lower part of the instrument panel. After replacing the filter the cover has to be refitted at which point the wires may become damaged or trapped. If the wiring harness is damaged this could lead to malfunctions of the air conditioning system as well as to a short circuit. In case of a short circuit a sensor may overheat while the vehicle is in operation. As a result smoke may develop from the instrument panel and subsequently a fire cannot be ruled out.
Fix: On the affected vehicles the air-conditioning wiring harness will be checked repaired if necessary and re-secured in a modified fixing.
UK DVSAHydraulic Brake System Unit Replacement
Risk: On affected vehicles the brake servomotor was improperly welded. The weld seam might not withstand the stresses caused under high brake pressure leading to a requirement for a higher brake effort increasing the braking distance.
Fix: Affected vehicles will have the hydraulic unit of the brake system replaced.
UK DVSAIntegrated Braking System
Risk: On certain vehicles the Integrated Brake (IB) system may be impaired due to contamination between electrical contacts.
Fix: Vehicles that may be affected by contamination are required to have the vehicle’s software updated which can detect signal interference before it occurs. If symptoms are detected you should refrain from use of the vehicle and the affected Integrated Brake (IB) system component will be replaced.
UK DVSAIntegrated Braking System
Risk: On affected vehicles an unexpected loss of hydraulic brake assistance may occur and may result in a different pedal behaviour under specific conditions an extended braking distance may be experienced and ABS/Stability control may be impaired
Fix: On the affected vehicles the Integrated Brake System will be replaced
UK DVSACheck Steering Wheel and Rework Ground Connection
Risk: On affected vehicles the steering wheel ground connection may have been insufficiently fastened during production which may result in the system detecting the hands are on the steering wheel even though they are not
Fix: On affected vehicles the steering wheel ground connection will be checked and if required reworked.
UK DVSAThe seat module control unit controls the seat functions and after initialisation continuously transmits the seat position to the airbag…The seat module control unit controls the seat functions and after initialisation continuously transmits the seat position to the airbag control unit. A software error can lead to the loss of the initialisation function.
Risk: The seat module control unit controls the seat functions and after initialisation continuously transmits the seat position to the airbag control unit. A software error can lead to the loss of the initialisation function.
Fix: Program the seat module control unit for all seats.

These deposits may increase relay contact resistance, leading to starting failures or short circuits. If a short circuit occurs, either when attempting to start the vehicle or while driving due to vibration-related movement of the deposits, it could cause a thermal event and increase the risk of fire.

EU Safety GateThe hollow shaft of the servomotor was not welded correctly. The weld may not be able to withstand high braking pressure build-up and may break. In this case, the reduced braking performance requires greater force and the braking distance may increase. In addition, the ABS and DSC brake control systems are not assisted. This increases the risk of an accident.

What do 2023 BMW 7 Series owners report?

My 2023 BMW 740i has experienced the same serious failure twice at approximately 21,000 miles. The exact component causing the failure is currently UNKNOWN. The vehicle is available for inspection and is currently being returned to an authorized BMW dealer for diagnosis. During the first incident, while driving, multiple warnings suddenly appeared involving chassis stabilization, regenerative braking, the parking brake/roll-away system and drivetrain. The warnings escalated to “Stop. Apply parking brake” and “Drivetrain malfunction. You cannot continue driving.” Shortly afterward, the vehicle…
On [XXX] approx [XXX] PM, my 2023 BMW 740i (VIN [XXX], 46,093 mi, software 03/2026.30) suddenly accelerated on its own with no accelerator input from me. I was driving under 30 mph in Odessa, TX, shortly after making a left turn from [XXX] onto [XXX]. Once I felt the acceleration, I gradually braked while checking the HUD, which confirmed cruise control was NOT engaged. I also confirmed the accelerator pedal was not obstructed - the vehicle has only factory BMW all-weather floor mats, no aftermarket mats or parts. The vehicle came under control as I braked. No collision, no damage, no…
Vehicle Symptom: The vehicle exhibits a persistent rough idle and engine hesitation specifically when at operating temperature. This issue is most prevalent during "Auto Start/Stop" transitions and while idling in heavy traffic. The engine feels as though it may stall, creating a significant safety concern regarding predictable acceleration and vehicle control in live traffic. Safety Risk: The instability of the engine performance creates an unpredictable driving experience. There is a high risk of the vehicle stalling or failing to accelerate properly when restarting from a stop, which could…
Component/System that failed: The rear differential failed internally, causing the left rear axle to separate from the differential housing. BMW’s own service center confirmed there was no external damage or outside force involved. The defective parts are currently with BMW of Manhattan and can be made available for inspection. Safety risk posed: This failure created a significant safety hazard, as drivetrain separation while in motion can lead to loss of vehicle control, wheel lock, or a collision — especially at highway speeds. Fortunately, no accident occurred, but the risk was high. Was…
failure of the Thruster bushings are seeping and starting to crack in the Steering If the thrust arm bushings (or thrust rod bushings) on a BMW 7 Series are seeping fluid and beginning to crack, there are some potential risks to be aware of. These bushings are critical components in the suspension system that absorb impacts, reduce vibrations, and maintain proper alignment. Here's a breakdown of potential risks: 1. **Reduced Ride Comfort** - Cracked or seeping bushings lose their ability to effectively dampen vibrations, leading to a harsher and less comfortable ride. 2. **Steering…
The recall for the Integrated Braking System has been on going since February with no remedy! This is unfair to us. They haven’t offered any kind of compensation in regards to this recall either.

Twice this month while driving normally and at a moderate speed a message flashed on the monitor that the emergency braking system was engaged. The car slowed dramatically and suddenly. Without thinking I braked or pressed the accelerator. Luckily, the car returned to normal speed. When the braking system engaged unsecured objects were thrown around. If a car was behind me I could have easlily been rear ended.
Vehicle brakes gave out while driving and would not stop. System generated an email of the incident from manufacturer. Dealership informed that they have seen this before and its is a simple fix with a brake booster but no recalls are currently recalling the vehicle. The warning appeared as it happened.

Counts are a starting point, not a verdict: popular models collect more complaints because more of them are on the road, and NHTSA does not verify individual reports. To see whether a recall is still open on your car, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (U.S.) or your registration at check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk (UK). Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations and recalls.
