UK DVSATakata Driver and/or Passenger Airbag Recall (Global VINs)
Risk: Affected vehicles are already included in Safety Recalls within the markets they have previously resided in. The vehicles may be fitted with a driver and/or passenger airbag/s which if deployed may do so with excessive force causing sharp metal fragments to be released this may cause serious injury which could prove fatal to people in the vicinity.
Fix: Vehicles will have the affected airbags checked and if necessary replaced.
UK DVSAReplace the Engine Starter Motor
Risk: For affected vehicles there is a concern involving water ingress and corrosion to the starter motor for where a short circuit cannot be ruled out. It is strongly recommended to park the vehicle outdoors and not in the immediate vicinity of buildings until the repair has been carried out.
Fix: Replacement of the starter motor.
UK DVSACheck Driver’s Airbag for Conversion Takata SDI & PSDI-5
Risk: Affected vehicles may have had a retrofit or conversion of the airbag using a previously recalled airbag variant which if deployed may do so with excessive force causing sharp metal fragments to be released this may cause serious injury possibly fatal to people in the vicinity. The original factory fitment airbag for the vehicle is not affected.
Fix: Vehicles will have the airbag checked and if necessary replaced.

Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and a metal angle bracket will be welded to each of the four ISOFIX brackets in the back seats to reinforce the mounting.
EU Safety GateWater may come into contact with the starter relay and gradually cause corrosion. This could affect the electrical connection inside the relay and make the engine difficult to start. It may also result in a short circuit and could cause the starter to overheat leading to a fire when the vehicle is in motion or when it is parked with the ignition off.

Description of the Problem: I am reporting a severe vehicle fire that occurred with my 2015 BMW X4 (VIN: [XXX}) on [XXX], while I was driving on [XXX] in Orlando, Florida. This was a life-threatening incident. I narrowly escaped death as flames suddenly engulfed the front of the vehicle while I was on the road. For nearly two hours, it felt like a horror show. I am still in shock. After checking my VIN on NHTSA’s recall database, I discovered that my vehicle is part of Recall Number 24V608, which is still "Incomplete" and had no remedy available. The recall clearly describes a fire risk caused…

I have reached out to BMW Dealers twice and BMW America Co since October 2024, after receiving the recall notice of Engine Coolant Pump crankcase (No. 24V-608). However, they have been unable to confirm when the remedy will be available. I would like to file a complaint regarding BMW's delay in providing the remedy, which has now exceeded six months. This delay is taking too long, and BMW should prioritize customer safety by having the remedy available as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention to this matter to help.

WHEN DRIVING THE BMW X4 THE VEHICLE WOULD BREAK ON ITS OWN, CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND FREEWAY. THIS CAUSED ME TO GET OFF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY WITH THE RISK OF BEING HIT FROM THE REAR. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR THEY SAID IT WAS THE CALIPERS AND BRAKE PADS THAT NEEDED REPLACED. WHEN THIS REPAIR TOOK PLACE, I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME AND THE NEXT MORNING THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITHIN 1 MILE OF DIVING THE VEHICLE. THE CAR STARTED BRAKING ON ITS OWN. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY KEPT THE CAR AND WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE…

WHILE DRIVING DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC APPROXIMATELY 0645, THE VEHICLE BECAME SLUGGISH AND EVENTUALLY BEGAN SHAKE VIGOROUSLY. I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE WITH VEHICLES DRIVING AT AT SPEEDS UP TO APPROXIMATELY 65 TO 80 MPH. THE DRIVE TRAIN ERROR CAME ON AND INDICATED 'DRIVE MODERATELY.' LEFT BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION. CAR HAS LESS THAN 40,000 MILES AND IN PERFECT CONDITION.
BRAKES WERE UNRESPONSIVE WHEN TRYING TO SLOW FROM 35 MPH FOR STOP SIGN. COULD ONLY DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL ABOUT A HALF-INCH, CAR ESSENTIALLY COASTED TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION CAUSING A NEAR MISS. CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER VIOLENTLY BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THIS WAS THE FIRST OF 2 SERIOUS BRAKE FAILURES FOR THIS CAR.
AFTER EXITING HIGHWAY ONTO OFFRAMP, I APPLIED BRAKES WHICH DID NOT SLOW CAR SIGNIFICANTLY, REAPPLIED BRAKE HARD AND AGAIN CAR CAR WOULD NOT SLOW ADEQUATELY. BRAKING POWER SEEM TO BE APPROX 10% OF NORMAL. CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND ENGINE REVVED AS CAR FINALLY STOPPED IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION, NEAR MISS VS ONCOMING TRAFFIC.
THIS IS WAS ON HIGHWAY, NO TRUFFICK. ONE ACCIDENT HAPPENED BEFORE ME, WAS NO FLASH LIGHTS OR STOP LIGHTS, WHEN I FIND OUT WHAT THIS VEHICLE NOT MOVING, PRESSED FOOL BRAKE. IN 150 FEET OF FOOL BRAKE CAR DIDN'T STOP. I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THE ABS DIDN'T WORK DURING THE BRAKING, THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T PUMP OUT. THANKS GOD, NO BODY DIDN'T GET ANY SERIOUS INJURIES. THAT'S WAS SO SCARED.

Counts are a starting point, not a verdict: popular models collect more complaints because more of them are on the road, and NHTSA does not verify individual reports. To see whether a recall is still open on your car, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (U.S.) or your registration at check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk (UK). Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations and recalls.
