What goes wrong with the 2016 Jaguar XF?
The components named most often in the 5 owner complaints. One complaint can name several, so the shares can add up to more than 100%.
Has the 2016 Jaguar XF been recalled?
NHTSA lists no safety recalls for the 2016 Jaguar XF as of October 25, 2026. Recalls can be issued at any time, so check your VIN before you rely on this.
Is the 2016 Jaguar XF recalled in the UK or Europe?
Recalls issued by the UK's DVSA and through the EU's Safety Gate system that cover this model and build period. European models can differ from U.S. ones, and "years estimated" means the recall gave no build dates, so confirm your own car with your registration or VIN.
UK DVSASecurity Guidance
Risk: Jaguar Land Rover in conjunction with law enforcement and insurance bodies is aware of the increase in thefts of vehicles in specific geographical locations within the United Kingdom. There is no fault with Jaguar Land Rover's security systems and they continue to meet stringent automotive legislation. Jaguar Land Rover is offering owners guidance on how to maximise vehicle security and protect against theft
Fix: Vehicle registered keepers will be sent a security guidance letter only - there is no repair action.
UK DVSAVehicles failed to achieve required levels of co2 emissions
Risk: Vehicles failed to routinely achieve the required levels of CO2 emissions.
Fix: Solutions include hardware and software changes.
UK DVSAThe vehicle failed to routinely achieve the required levels of co2 emissions
Risk: Vehicles failed to routinely achieve the required levels of CO2 emissions.
Fix: Update the vehicle software to the latest version.
UK DVSAFuel may leak
Risk: The brazing of the fuel rail end caps is inconsistent and may not correctly seal the fuel rail ends. Fuel vapour and liquid fuel leaks can occur over time. This can lead to a liquid fuel leak into the engine bay.
Fix: On affected vehicles replace the fuel rail with a correctly manufactured version.
UK DVSAInstrument cluster may intermittently go blank
Risk: Due to a software issue the Instrument cluster may intermittently go blank.
Fix: Affected vehicles will be recalled to have the latest software installed/downloaded.
UK DVSASide curtain airbag may not deploy
Risk: The electrical harness from the Restraints Control Module (RCM) to side crash sensors has been incorrectly orientated. The RCM signal wire for the right hand C Pillar impact sensor is wired to the left hand C Pillar impact sensor and vice versa. In the event of a collision requiring the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) to deploy the curtain airbags they may not deploy or deploy later than design intent which can lead to increased injuries to the rear outboard seat occupant.
Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and repair the harness to change the wiring at the RCM connector.
UK DVSAFuel hose may leak
Risk: The fuel return hose may leak. Increased fuel odour may be noticed and drivers may also observe liquid fuel puddles underneath the vehicle. It is possible that fuel may leak onto the road surface which can present a skid hazard to other road users increasing the risk of a crash. Should leaking fuel come into contact with a sufficiently hot surface in the engine bay there will be an increased risk of fire.
Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the fuel return hose.
UK DVSAInner sill may be cracked
Risk: On affected vehicles the Left Hand Inner Sill Panel may be cracked. During an impact on the left hand side there is a risk that underfloor fuel lines will be ruptured and result in fuel leaking from the vehicle.
Fix: If the inner sill panel on an affected is cracked the manufacturer will repurchase the vehicle and the customer will be supplied with a new vehicle.
UK DVSADiesel fuel may leak and in extreme circumstances create risk of fire
Risk: Due to a misrouted fuel pipe a metal hose clip my chafe against a nylon fuel pipe and may cause a fuel leak
Fix: On affected vehicles reroute piping and replace any damaged pipes.
UK DVSAPossible loss of steering assistance
Risk: The auxiliary drive belt pulley retainer may fail and cause loss of drive to auxiliary items including the water pump and power steering pump. This may cause an engine management lamp to illuminate engine overheating or a reduction in steering assistance though steering control will be maintained.
Fix: On affected vehicles replace auxiliary belt idler pulley and retainer.
UK DVSAEngine may cut out and fail to restart
Risk: The under bonnet low pressure fuel feed hose may detach from the fuel filter. A fuel smell may be noticed due to fuel leaking into the engine bay and in the event of hose detachment the engine will cut out. Once the engine has cut out the brake vacuum reservoir will be depleted after 2-3 brake pedal depressions and the vehicle will lose brake power assistance however foundation brakes continue to operate. The engine cannot be re-started. Engine cut out with minimal warning could potentially cause a crash.
Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and add a spring wire retention clip to the low pressure fuel feed hose joint.

How often does the 2016 Jaguar XF fail its MOT?
Why they failed: the share of failed tests with at least one fault in each area (a test can fail on several). Cars first registered in 2016, tested in Great Britain in 2023; first registration is usually, but not always, the model year. Dynamic mode alert locked up several times and panel was unresponsive intermittently and rear passenger footwell filled with water. . Cause is described by Jaguar dealer as rear window leak that passes through rear tail lamp and floods under the spare destroying the PCM module. Car surged once in driveway and I was blessed to hit the brake. Never again. I have waited more than six weeks for repair and Jaguar refuses to take responsibility for the problem.

Counts are a starting point, not a verdict: popular models collect more complaints because more of them are on the road, and NHTSA does not verify individual reports. To see whether a recall is still open on your car, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (U.S.) or your registration at check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk (UK). Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations and recalls.
