What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The instrument cluster display intermittently failed, either showing incorrect information or going completely blank while driving. Yes, the component is still installed in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? When the display failed, I was unable to view critical information such as vehicle speed, warning lights, and engine performance data. This posed a significant safety risk, especially while navigating traffic. Hasโฆ
Component or System That Failed or Malfunctioned: The component that failed was the partial-load ventilation valve, which is part of the engineโs crankcase ventilation system. This valve is responsible for regulating airflow and pressure within the crankcase during partial engine loads. A malfunction in this valve can lead to increased engine pressure, oil leaks, and potential damage to engine components. The component is still available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The failure of the partial-load ventilation valve put my safety, and that of others, at risk in the following waysโฆ
Approximately 6 months I noticed my vehicle began to emit an odor and is not responsive immediately when I press on the gas. During this time period a yellow check engine light appeared on my dashboard. My local mechanic recommended Christopher Motors in Warwick Rhode Island and German Motors in Providence, Rhode Island, who specializes in Mercedes. I scheduled an appointment and took the vehicle to Christophers Motors to get a diagnostics check for $130. Christopher motors did a diagnostic check and revealed that the car needs a crank shift ventilator that will cost approximately $1500-$1800โฆ

2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class: questions owners ask
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class reliable?
NHTSA data alone cannot rate reliability, but it shows what owners reported. Owners filed 28 complaints with NHTSA about the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class; the most common categories were electrical system (7, 25%), air bags (5, 17.9%), engine (4, 14.3%). There are no safety recalls listed for this model year. 2 complaints mention a crash, 2 injuries were reported.
What are the most common problems with the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class?
Across 28 owner complaints filed with NHTSA, the categories mentioned most often are electrical system (25% of complaints), air bags (17.9% of complaints), engine (14.3% of complaints), power train (14.3% of complaints), structure (10.7% of complaints). One complaint can name several components.
Does the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class have any recalls?
As of October 2026, NHTSA lists no safety recalls for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. Recalls can be issued at any time, so check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Why is the check engine light on in my 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class?
3 of the 28 owner complaints NHTSA has on file for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class (10.7%) describe the check engine light coming on. One owner wrote: "The check engine light on the vehicle came on and remained on each time the vehicle is running. An independent service center in an effort to fix the problem, ran a diagnostic test and found that the check engine light is on due to two codes." (NHTSA complaint 11772157, October 2026). If it happens to your car, check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls and report the problem to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations.
Check your own CLA-Class
Counts are a starting point, not a verdict: popular models collect more complaints because more of them are on the road, and NHTSA does not verify individual reports. To see whether a recall is still open on your car, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (U.S.) or your registration at check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk (UK). Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations and recalls.
