6 of the 134 owner complaints NHTSA has on file for the 2016 Ram 3500 (4.5%) describe the car catching fire or melting wiring. A related recall exists: campaign 17V824000 (equipment). The fix: Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. One owner wrote: "The Government Owned Vehicle (GOV) was traveling North on 31E in Nashville, when truck shuttered then truck passenger side wheel fell off. Tire/wheel pinned to truck and caught fire. Drive pulled truck off to side of roadway and called 911." (NHTSA complaint 11496436, December 2022). Recall repairs are free at a dealer; check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Counts are a starting point, not a verdict: popular models collect more complaints because more of them are on the road, and NHTSA does not verify individual reports. To see whether a recall is still open on your car, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (U.S.) or your registration at check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk (UK). Had a safety problem? Report it to NHTSA; complaints are what trigger investigations and recalls.
