Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 recalled in the UK or Europe?
Recalls issued by the UK's DVSA and through the EU's Safety Gate system that cover this model and build period. European models can differ from U.S. ones, and "years estimated" means the recall gave no build dates, so confirm your own car with your registration or VIN.
UK DVSACharging restricted to 80%
Risk: On vehicles of the ID. product line equipped with high-voltage batteries from a certain supplier there is a suspicion that individual components of the high-voltage battery may not meet our high quality standards. In rare cases when the high-voltage battery is at a high charge level the battery may overheat. This creates a risk of fire which could lead to severe or deadly injuries of persons within and outside of the vehicle as well as to significant material damage.
Fix: Until the check and if necessary repair of the vehicle it is very important that the high-voltage battery only be charged to a maximum charge level of 80 %. Furthermore the warnings (stickers) included with the campaign letter must be applied to the vehicle. This measure is both for the safety of the vehicle owner and to protect any other people who use the vehicle.
UK DVSACharging restricted to 80% — with workshop
Risk: On vehicles of the ID. product line equipped with high-voltage batteries from a certain supplier there is a suspicion that individual components of the high-voltage battery may not meet our high quality standards. In rare cases when the high-voltage battery is at a high charge level the battery may overheat. This creates a risk of fire which could lead to severe or deadly injuries of persons within and outside of the vehicle as well as to significant material damage.
Fix: As part of the workshop visit an ODIS diagnostic log is created that includes information on the condition and functionality of the high voltage battery. Based on this data a check of the battery status is undertaken. If the analysis shows that the high-voltage battery is not abnormal the currently valid charging restriction to 80 % is lifted after successful evaluation of the data. This has the prerequisite that the ODIS diagnostic log be fully uploaded. However if irregularities are found on the high-voltage battery the charging restriction remains in place until replacement of the affected battery modules. In this case check whether the required warning stickers are already attached to the instrument panel and the charging socket. If the warning stickers are not there these must be attached to the vehicle according to the work instruction. Until the check and if necessary repair of the vehicle it is very important that the high-voltage battery only be charged to a maximum charge level of 80 %. Furthermore the warnings (stickers) included with the campaign letter must be applied to the vehicle. This measure is both for the safety of the vehicle owner and to protect any other people who use the vehicle. To increase safety where technically possible the maximum available charging capacity of the vehicle has already been temporarily restricted to 80 % on the system side. Taking these requirements into account the vehicle can continue to be used. Maintaining the charging restriction and attaching the warning stickers are important prerequisites in order to minimise possible risks until the final check of the high-voltage battery.
UK DVSAExterior door handle software update
Risk: On affected vehicles there is a possibility a door may open unexpectedly.
Fix: Update the software on the door handle control units so a message is displayed in the event of malfunction.
UK DVSABackrest bolted connection
Risk: On VW ID.4 and ID.7 vehicles of a limited production period the bolted connection of the front seats between backrest and seat pan may be incorrect. The restraint effect of the seat may be insufficient in the event of an accident. There is therefore an increased risk for occupants.
Fix: On affected vehicles the bolts on both front seat backrests must be replaced.
EU Safety GateThe high-voltage battery’s cell modules could overheat during charging. This may lead to fire.

I was stopped in a friend’s driveway in front of her closed garage door to drop her off after an outing. The front sensor had not been alerting me to how close I was to any objects several times the same day. Before my passenger exited, the car suddenly lurched forward and smashed into my friend’s garage door, buckling several panels on the garage door and scraping the paint off the front of my car. I have contacted the dealership to have the car inspected and I’m waiting for an appointment. No police report has been filed. No injuries occurred. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other…
Vehicle: 2023 Volkswagen ID.4, VIN [XXX] (in service [XXX]) Component: Power Train – Drive axle / Driveshaft At 19,623 miles, a thumping and rolling noise developed in the rear, worst under heavy acceleration and deceleration. Volkswagen of Cool Springs (Franklin, TN) found the left rear CV axle loose where it fits into the rear drive motor. The dealer replaced the left rear drive axle (RO [XXX], 06/28/2025 to 07/14/2025). The same noise returned within 3 days. On 07/17/2025 (RO [XXX], 19,732 miles), the dealer ordered a second driveshaft. A later visit (RO [XXX]) again recommended axle…
Failure to stop, auto continued forward. I veered right to avoid heading collision with a tree. I veered right but was unable to prevent colliding with the tree, scraping the bark. The vehicle then spontaneously accelerated and I had to slam my foot on the brake to make it stop. This caused $8900 of damage to the body of the vehicle. The repairman at the collision shop expressed concerns with the brakes, and recommended the car be taken to the dealer to have the brakes checked..This EV has been reported as having this issue since 2021, for models 2021-2024; VW fails to install a safety recall…
On XXX, at about 10:22 PM, I was driving my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 southbound on [XXX] in [XXX], from [XXX] toward [XXX]. It was raining moderately, but the road and lanes were clearly visible. There was no vehicle, person or object in front of me. Adaptive Cruise Control was not engaged. I was traveling at about 55 mph. Without any input from me, the car suddenly applied full emergency braking. I did not press the brake pedal. The sudden braking on the wet road caused the car to spin around about twice. It struck the curb and the concrete barrier wall on the left side of the highway and came to…
While driving the car, the electrical system failed and the car shut down with very little warning. It is then inoperable. Fortunately, this has happened while on residential streets, but it would have been catastrophic on the highway. This has happened a few times. We have taken it to the dealership for repairs, but the problem persists despite their assurances that it was fixed.
Recall 93EA / NHTSA campaign 26V030000 (high-voltage battery). I am the owner of a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 subject to safety recall 93EA (high-voltage battery). I live on the [XXX], and bought the car on this island from Pre-Owned Motor Cars. There is no authorized Volkswagen recall-service facility on the island; VW directs me to a dealer on [XXX], requiring inter-island ocean shipment of the vehicle. Since XXX, I have pursued the no-charge recall remedy through VW Customer Care, and since XXX I have an official case.number On XXX VW verbally refused any loaner vehicle and refused to escalate my…
I have experienced this situation two times this past week in a parking lot. I pulled out of a space and was only going 2 to 3 miles an hour and the car lunged forward quickly and then stopped. Luckily nothing was in front of me.
My car spontaneously accelerated out of control, onto my neighbor's lawn. I had to brake hard to stop the car from crashing into their house. This could have injured myself and my neighbors, if the car did not stop. The car has not yet been inspected by Volkswagen, I am in contact with their customer service about this issue. There were no warnings or issues with the car before this occurred.
I have experienced braking issues with my 2023 ID.4. It would randomly require me to put press the brake pedal all the way to the floor and would still roll past stop lines, and near miss with cars in front of me. It happens more often when the road is wet and raining weather. I was told by two VW service centers that my breaks were normal and they found nothing wrong with the car as they couldn't replicate the issue. After doing some digging online I found out other ID.4 owners had to go to multiple service centers working with offsite EV team to have a proper diagnosis for the problem. They…
While entering a parking lot at a low speed, with my foot already firmly applied to the brake due to the close proximity of a parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own unexpectedly. Despite continuous pressure on the brake pedal, the vehicle proceeded forward, struck another parked vehicle, and continued moving for approximately two additional seconds before coming to a stop on its own. Additionally, no forward collision/crash warning alert was activated prior to impact, and the airbags did not deploy during the collision.
The failure involves the driver’s side door latch/lock assembly and emergency access system. Specifically, the mechanical emergency keys for the door did not function, and the door later did not fully close or seal due to two loose bolts near the lock. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This created a safety risk because I was unable to manually unlock the vehicle in an emergency when electronic systems could fail. Additionally, while driving, the driver’s door was not fully sealed and allowed wind into the cabin without triggering any warning alert, raising concern that the…
We took this vehicle in for a previous recall for defective exterior door handle. The previous one worked fine, but was replaced do the the recall. The new handle broke within days of being installed. We have requested to have it replaced numerous times by the dealer who says that parts aren't available. It has been more than six months. We are worried about it failing and being unable to enter or exit the vehicle.
