Vehicle has 46,000 miles on odometer. A year ago the "Service Airbag System" light would intermittently illuminate. It is now staying lit all the time. I was speaking with an acquaintance as they had the same vehicle. Theirs caught on fire under the seat in the electrical connection box for the airbag. I took it to a few of our local mechanics and they say it is a substantial safety issue as they pulled the codes B0028-13 and B0020-13. Right side and left side seat deployment squib circuit open. The airbags will not deploy upon impact. The consensus from the mechanics was that Chrysler has known this is a common problem in these vehicles and needs to address the repair. After calling…

The vehicle show code B0020-13. This is a fault in the wiring system for the airbags. Caused by Jeep engineering being bad. This has nothing to do with how is driven or used and is a massive safety issue and shuts the entire airbag system down. It requires fix 10-001-20. This issue is so common they have issued a bulletin. The fix is $1100. The fact that this isn't covered by Chrysler is an abomination to safety and is absolutely ridiculous. Then being allowed to not fix air bag issue they know they have caused should be illegal. I'm embarrassed to even have to write this. This is going to kill someone.

TRIM ELECTRICAL - Upon dealer service inspection, technician found the air bag light on. DTCS code B0020-13 left side airbag deployment control circuit open due to the wiring harness routed under the driver's seat becoming chafed as a result of the automatic seat adjustment resulting in a nondeployment or late deployment of airbag. Dealer recommended replacement of the wiring harness. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN - this is a stock vehicle with 63k miles and normal use of moving the electronic driver's seat forward or back should not interfere with an airbag's performance.

The airbag warning lamp is illuminated on the dashboard of my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Limited 4WD, 3.6L V6). A Jeep dealer (Lee Dodge, Westbrook, Maine) diagnosed the problem as fault code B0020-13, a driver-side frontal airbag squib circuit fault, and stated that the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy in a crash. The dealer quoted $3,442.35 for the repair and denied goodwill coverage. I opened a case with Jeep corporate on October 8, 2026 (case number [XXX], case manager Kenneth) and sent follow-up emails on October 10, 12, and 14, and left multiple voicemails; Jeep corporate has not responded. The driver's side seat airbag system failed. Specifically, diagnostic trouble code SRS-B002011 was retrieved, indicating a circuit short to ground in the left side airbag deployment control system. The technician found a broken clip on the airbag connector housing, causing an intermittent connection failure between the connector and the seat airbag itself. The airbag cannot be relied upon to deploy in a crash. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I purchased this vehicle on May 10, 2026, and drove it as my primary means of transportation. During that time, the driver's side seat airbag was non-functional due to a circuit short to ground and a broken connector housing. Had I…

Wire connector under the passenger seat disables the airbag and turns on the SRS light with the code B0028-13 Right side Airbag circuit open. I have noticed that FCA is aware of the problem as the fix is to replace the wire Connectors under the seat. As an alignment mechanic I am in and out of a lot of vehicles and just about all of the 2015 to 2017 Chrysler 200s I have worked on have this code, some also have B0020-13 which is the left side seat air bag circuit open.

B0020: questions drivers ask

What does code B0020 mean?

B0020 is a manufacturer-specific body code (body: airbags, seats, lighting, climate and comfort electronics), so its exact definition depends on the carmaker and is not in the generic OBD-II list. 16 owners reported it to NHTSA, most often for the Chrysler 200 (5), Jeep Cherokee (3), Land Rover Range Rover Sport (2); their reports describe what happened.

Which cars get code B0020 most often?

In NHTSA owner complaints, B0020 is mentioned most for the Chrysler 200 (5), Jeep Cherokee (3), Land Rover Range Rover Sport (2), across 9 models and model years 2012 to 2018. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.

Is there a recall for code B0020?

No NHTSA recall text names B0020 directly. 8 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Air Bags); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What should I do if my car shows B0020?

Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.

How this page was made

CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of B0020 (including sub-code forms such as B002011). Manufacturer codes have no public standard definition, so CarHooq shows only what owners reported. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Data: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (public domain), retrieved November 3, 2026. How CarHooq reports are made.
