The contact owns a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The vehicle was purchased and the contact was notified of an EPS failure. While driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated and the messages "Service Engine", "Service Throttle Body", and "Alfa Steering Torque" were displayed. The contact detected a burning coolant odor while outside the vehicle. The following day, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 20–30 MPH with the RPM at high, and the coolant level fluctuating. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle but was unable to open the hood due to a fractured hood latch. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where DTC: P0299, P00B7, C0051-86, U1702-86, and C0076-68 were…
Both front wheel drive shaft anti-click washers on my 2023 Bolt EV fractured at 18,269 miles. The failure caused a repeatable click/clunk from the front of the vehicle on torque application — accelerating from a full stop, from a slow roll under 5 mph, or accelerating out of a coast at about 20 mph. A Chevrolet dealer confirmed both anti-click washers were cracked (Repair Order 652900). The repair required removing both front half-shafts, replacing the washers (GM P/N 42754282) and drive shaft nuts (GM P/N 13208079), and reinstalling the axles. The noise was eliminated. This is a safety issue because GM has documented in writing that this exact failure can damage the ABS wheel speed sensor…
THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY 2 DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOPS WITH THE FOLLOW CODES: U1504, P0610, P1500, U0420, C0051, C212A, U0402, C1246. ULTIMATELY, THE PDC (POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER) IS NOT WORKING. THERE HAVE ALREADY BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE RECALL DATES DO NOT REACH OUR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED DATE BY A MONTH. THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO COOPERATE AND HELP WITH NOTIFYING YOU OF THIS ISSUE THAT IS AFFECTING MORE CONSUMERS THAN YOU ARE UNDER THE IMPRESSION. PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS IN A TIMELY MANOR. MY HUSBANDS VEHICLE WILL NOT BE USABLE UNTIL THIS IS SETTLED.
Randomly whilst driving, my dash had multiple error messages pop up and my power steering went out completely. The error messages were as follows: Service AdvanceTrac, Terrain Management System Fault, Hill Start Assist Not Available, & Power Steering Assit Fault. This keeps happening intermittently, while I am driving. This causes a serious safety issue, for my steering wheel to lock up while I am driving! I did get the codes for the errors and they are as follows: U0420-41, C0051-67, U0151-00, U0131-00. My ABS system failed check, as well. This is a known issue with Ford vehicles, as there have already been recalls for previous models. According to [XXX]: "Ford has recalled earlier model…
Ford F-250 Super Duty (VIN: [XXX]) eastbound on [XXX], preparing to turn right (south) onto [XXX]. Accelerated, turned on the right blinker, and attempted to turn the steering wheel right, but the vehicle continued straight into the active intersection, almost t-boning another vehicle. The dashboard brake warnings illuminated, the instrument cluster lit up, and steering control was completely lost. We managed to safely bring the truck home and parked it. [XXX] 520 PM Brought the truck to Fairway Ford in Placentia, CA (Advisor: [XXX], RO #[XXX]). FDRS diagnostic scan revealed DTC C0051 (Steering Wheel Position Sensor) along with network communication faults (U0415 / U0418). [XXX]Text message…
I purchased this 2024 f350 from Auto Park Ford in Laporte, IN on [XXX] with 94 miles on the truck. It was shipped directly to me and arrived July 21st 2025. Upon taking delivery there were many safety faults present once I drove the vehicle that included loss of power, the vehicle randomly braking by itself, adaptive cruise control faults, cross traffic faults, blind spot warning faults, forward collision faults, rear cross traffic faults, rusty engine components as well as other rusty components on the vehicle. These safety defects in manufacturing materials, workmanship, improper storage by the selling dealer, and selling of a defective vehicle to me has put myself and my family in an…
I was driving my car when our of no where, the power steering stopped functioning and two messages started to flash on my dashboard: "Steering Assist Fault Service Required" and "Service Advancetrac" This was very dangerous as I could not steer the car. Once I was able to get the car home, I scanned it and received these two codes: "C0051 Steering Wheel Position Sensor" "U0420 Invalid Dates Received from Power Steering Control Module (PSCM)"
I went to this dealership today to get my steering column control module reprogrammed. Which includes What the Dealer’s Reprogramming Usually Covers (Standard & Expected) • SCCM (Steering Column Module)programming/configuration — Loads the correct software and vehicle-specific data into the new module.• Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) calibration — Teaches the system the straight-ahead wheel position (critical for fixing hard steering and related codes).• Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) relearn — Calibrates the new sensor so the vehicle accurately monitors battery voltage/charging (helps with electrical gremlins and odometer issues). • Instrument cluster synchronization/reset — Clears the…
ON JULY 5TH, 2019 I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-95 FROM BEAUFORT SC TO JACKSONVILLE, NC GOING 75MPH. I HAD BEEN USING MY CRUISE CONTROL FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND TRAFFIC WAS PRETTY BUSY BUT I WAS STILL ABLE TO MAINTAIN A SAFE DISTANCE AND CONTINUE USING MY CRUISE CONTROL. AS IT OFTEN DOES IN THE CAROLINAS, IT BEGAN TO LIGHT RAIN SO I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN MY SPEED. AS I DEPRESSED THE BREAK, I LOST CONTROL OF MY TRUCK, POSSIBLY DUE TO THE BEGINNING OF WATER ACCUMULATION ON THE ROAD, BUT MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT COME OFF AND I COULD NOT STOP. I ENDED UP RUNNING OFF THE ROAD, SPINNING 3 TIMES AND FINALLY STOPPING BACKWARDS IN THE TREES SEPARATING 95 NORTH AND SOUTH. DUE TO MY VEHICLE BEING TOO FAR TO…

What should I do if my car shows C0051?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of C0051. Manufacturer codes have no public standard definition, so CarHooq shows only what owners reported. Nothing here is a diagnosis.
