Total loss of Power Steering ! Warning light display: "Steering Assist Fault", "Service AdvanceTrac", turn signals unable to lock and release. Hard Fault codes present: U3000 96-C8, C200D, 49-48 C1B00, 64-48. This problem started somewhere in the last quarter of 2025, it started with intermittent and sudden loss of power steering, while driving, which is very much a safety issue, especially when my wife does not have a lot of strength in her arms while trying to maneuver a vehicle with manual steering only. It has happened to me as well. It used to be that when you get to a save pull over point, shut vehicle off and do a restart, it would reset back to normal operation, most of the time…

Owner, who had bought the truck new approx. 3 1/2 years earlier, had driven about three miles on dry, paved, residential, hilly, roads and was returning to where he was staying when he came upon a waiting line of cars. He turned around to go a different way. Coming to a slight curve the power steering (EPAS) went out. Struggling to make the curve, the power assist kicked in and jolted him off the right side of the road. Had the curve been to the left, the truck may have been thrust into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Owner then slowly soldiered on, with the truck making an intermittent noise as if trying to activate the power steering, which it sometimes did, causing the truck to swerve…

My 2021 F-150 has been diagnosed with a failed electric steering gear Code PSCM C1B00 49 2F. I understand there was a recall on some 2021 trucks with similar steering issues, although my VIN is not included. The part is on national backorder and my dealer says there are approximately 150 vehicles ahead of mine. This is a safety-related steering component, part number "ML3Z3504G"

I have a 2014 Ford Explorer sport. I notice the airbag light went on. I ran my obd scanner, initially it gave B00A0 and B0061 error codes. After a couple weeks, my EPS doesn’t work after I turned the engine on, it won’t turn left or right. It went away after turning off and back on. It happened again after couple of days, i was leaving the gas station and the message went on and i tried to restart the engine twice, but it still didn’t fix it, but i had to leave cause there are people behind me waiting. I tried to drive forward and just end up blocking the way cause I couldn’t turn the steering wheel and people are getting upset. Thank God it worked after the 3rd restart. Then 3rd time it…

LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. TRACTION CONTROL FAULT AND TERRAIN CONTROL FAULT CAME ON. THE STEERING BOX NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE CODES C1B00-62, U2001, U0415, AND THE SAME ISSUE THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF RECALL 14S06, BUT MY VIN IS NOT IN THE DATA BASE FOR THIS. THE RECALL SPECIFICALLY CALLS OUT VEHICLES FROM THE CHICAGO PLANT. 11TH LETTER IN MY VIN SHOWS IT CAME FROM THE CHICAGO PLANT. FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO CONSIDER THIS A RECALL ITEM, I STRONG DISAGREE WITH THEM. *TR

IF YOU DON'T RESET LIGHT THE SIGNAL LIGHTS DON'T WORK UNLESS YOU HOLD THE LEVER UP OR DOWN IT BRING CODES UP C1B00 AND U0428-20 ANDU2101 WHICH DEALER SAYS STEERING SENSOR IS BAD BUT NOT SERVICEABLE SO YOU NEED NEW ELECTRIC STEERING RACK. THIS IS ON A 2012 F150XLT AND THERE IS NO RECALL BUT I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, ALSO I THINK IT IS A POWER TRAIN ISSUE. *TR

C1B00: questions drivers ask

What does code C1B00 mean?

C1B00 is a manufacturer-specific chassis code (chassis: brakes, ABS, stability control, steering and suspension), so its exact definition depends on the carmaker and is not in the generic OBD-II list. 12 owners reported it to NHTSA, most often for the Ford Explorer (6), Ford F-150 (5), Ford Ranger (1); their reports describe what happened.

Which cars get code C1B00 most often?

In NHTSA owner complaints, C1B00 is mentioned most for the Ford Explorer (6), Ford F-150 (5), Ford Ranger (1), across 3 models and model years 2012 to 2021. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.

Is there a recall for code C1B00?

No NHTSA recall text names C1B00 directly. 1 recall on the cars that report this code concerns the same component owners name most (Steering); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What should I do if my car shows C1B00?

Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.

How this page was made

CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of C1B00. Manufacturer codes have no public standard definition, so CarHooq shows only what owners reported. Nothing here is a diagnosis.
