While driving a 2014 Ford Fusion during a snowstorm, the vehicle displayed the warning message “Steering Assist Fault – Service Required.” Immediately afterward, the steering became extremely difficult to turn, requiring significantly greater effort to control the vehicle. This sudden loss of power steering assist created a serious safety risk for myself and others on the road. WAS PULLING UP TO A STOPLIGHT IN TOWN, THE IN DASH LIT UP WITH "ELECTRIC STEERING ASSIST FAIL" AND MY STEERING WHEEL STIFFENED UP AS IF I LOST POWER STEERING, I STOPPED, CYCLED THE KEY AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. Power steering fault message comes on and vehicle loses steering. Had vehicle diagnosed with local Ford dealer and found DTC C200D Found steering gear failure.
I was driving my car and received a warning that the Power Steering System Failure. Within a few minutes, the power steering in the car went out. Had to have the vehicle towed to mechanic. The mechanic reported the code of C200D-49. 2 Ford Dealerships stated that they had never heard of any issues yet my mechanic recently had another Ford vehicle in with the same situation.
On 10/31/21 at approximately 7:30 pm my dashboard alerted me with a steering assist fault after making a turn on a rotary on Mystic valley Pkwy Somerville Ma 02144. After entering the rotary my vehicles steering wheel become stiff and hard to move and staring moving towards the left side close to the curbs. I was traveling at around 20mph. I was able to move the vehicle to a near by park that was located on the same street as the rotary (Dilboy stadium). After parking the vehicle, I shut it off and restarted it. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN PHOENIXVILLE, PA STATED ON 9/25/19 THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH C200D CODE FOR MOTOR ROTATION ANGLE SENSOR. THEY GAVE AN ESTIMATE THAT THE PART IS 1500 AND LABOR 500.
