Manufacturer: General Motors / Chevrolet Vehicle: 2016 Chevrolet Cruze LT (VIN: [XXX]) Corporate Case Number: XXX Nature of Dispute: Premature mechanical failure of a major drivetrain assembly and administrative bad faith. Factual Timeline: Initial Failure & Prior Liability: At 51,490 miles, the vehicle suffered a mechanical failure of the turbocharger assembly. General Motors acknowledged defect awareness and prior liability by funding a $1,000 payout to complete the repair. Premature Secondary Failure: Just 40,000 miles after that official manufacturer repair, a certified Chevrolet dealership service department formally diagnosed a second total mechanical failure of the turbocharger…
Turbo cooler and turbocharger failure, diagnosis and replacement on February 4 and February 17, 2026 by a certified GM dealership. Replacement of these parts was not included in service bulletin N222372590 (issued 12/22/22), which covered 100% replacement for the exact parts for the exact engine for a number of other GM vehicles manufactured from 2016-2022. The total repair cost for these two part replacements was $4,951.11 for a car that was purchase just two months prior for $17,000. A great disappointment! Code for issue in both cases was P0299. The failed parts resulted in significant engine power loss, which made it unsafe to drive as acceleration away from intersections and on entering…
Vehicle engine light came on XXX and was driven immediately to Auto Zone to check the code. The code showed P0299. The vehicle was then taken 2 miles home and parked. It was towed to Lake Chevrolet in [XXX] on XXX to prevent any engine damage from occurring due to the failed turbo. Upon Lake's inspection they claim the manifold and valve cover gasket must be replaced. We agreed to that, and asked about an oil change as everything we read said that was mandatory with work like this. Was told the technician didn't suggest it but they would do it at our request for an additional charge. After they confirmed the turbo was bad and well as the items above we agreed to the repairs and they said the…

Vehicle has active alerts for powertrain control module, and low boost pressure with the turbocharge along with emissions codes P0299, P0496 and P0456. The vehicle is constantly going into deep sleep mode. While driving the vehicle started to enter safe mode. And displayed an alert that said please turn ignition on. The dash and screen went black like vehicle was off but it was still running. This happened multiple times. My vehicle also will not start after pumping gas so I have to leave vehicle running every time I pump gas. My vehicle will not pass NY state inspection because of the recalls.
car in question is a 2022 Audi q7 55 tfsi - 3.0 turbo - 40k miles 2 owner. serviced at Audi since new. under warranty until 50k car throws a p0299 code - turbo underboost condition present - coolant migration from a faulty VW/AUDI water pump is sending coolant into vacuum lines causing catastrophic engine issues - car can not be driven. Audi will not fix under warranty and is trying to charge 5,800$ to replace waterpump/ associated lines. tells me the warranty "is for some items and not others" there is a class action lawsuit for a longstanding issue that Audi has been aware of since 2020 and not offering any solution for - Case No. 26-5678, NJ.
My 2018 Ford Edge Titanium (2.0L EcoBoost) is experiencing internal engine coolant intrusion - the defect described in Ford Technical Service Bulletin 22-2229 (June 10, 2022), which covers 2015-2018 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost vehicles for coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. The engine loses motive power without warning: it revs but the vehicle barely accelerates, including at road speed - a sudden loss-of-power hazard in traffic. Symptoms began approximately 09/08/2026. The check-engine light is illuminated with diagnostic codes P0300, P0302, P0303 (engine misfires, cylinders 2 and 3), P0316 (misfire on startup), P0217, P1285, P1299 (overheating - the computer has entered cylinder-head…
Since the vehicle was purchased new in 2020, the check engine light has come on and the service throttle body message has been displayed 12 times. It only happens when I am towing a 5,500 pound travel trailer. When the anomalies happens, I loose engine power. Say I am traveling at 65 MPH. When the anomalies happens and the CEL and warning messages appear, my speed drops to 32 MPH. Most Interstate freeway systems have a 45 MPH lower limit. I am forced to quickly pull over to the emergency lane to avoid a crash situation. If I shut off the engine and restart it, my power comes back but the CEL is still on. The selling dealership has tried to fix this several times. The engine code that is…
My 2020 Ford EcoSport (1.0L EcoBoost) is covered by Recall 23S64 / NHTSA 23V905 (engine oil pump drive belt). The defect causes sudden loss of motive power at highway speed (65+ mph), usually after 40+ minutes of driving, with the powertrain warning light and code P0299 (turbo underboost). Losing power in Los Angeles freeway traffic is the safety hazard. The recall remedy has failed repeatedly. In Oct 2025 the dealer tore down the engine, confirmed the oil pump belt had disintegrated and clogged the oil pickup, and replaced the complete engine (long block) under the recall in Dec 2025. The recall now shows as completed for this vehicle, but since that repair, with under 500 miles driven: (1)…
Reference Tracking # 11622306. I purchased my used F150 with 52,956 miles on 1/3/2020. Shortly after, I would occasionally notice an unusual gear downshift. Upon receiving Ford Recall 24S37 (NHTSA 24V444000) update for the powertrain control module, the check engine lite (CEL) came on. I called the Ford Recall ph#, and they told me to continue to work with the dealership that performed the update. Several times I returned to the dealership, they would reset it with diagnostics, yet repeatedly the P0299 code would return each time. Prior to the CEL coming on, the CEL was preceded by a stall on acceleration on small hill inclines, and worsened fuel mileage, and typically after towing my…
P0299: questions drivers ask
What does code P0299 mean?
P0299 is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. Its standard definition is "Turbo/Super Charger Underboost". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 36 car models.
Which cars get code P0299 most often?
In NHTSA owner complaints, P0299 is mentioned most for the Chevrolet Cruze (11), Chevrolet Malibu (11), Chevrolet Trax (11), across 36 models and model years 2012 to 2024. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.
Is there a recall for code P0299?
No NHTSA recall text names P0299 directly. 8 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Engine); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
What should I do if my car shows P0299?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P0299 (including sub-code forms such as P029921). The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Data: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (public domain), retrieved November 3, 2026. How CarHooq reports are made.
