My GMC sierra AT4 with the 3.0L Duramax Diesel, has 1,500 miles on it, when the engine failed. I was traveling from [XXX] to [XXX] , towing a trailer, when the check engine light came, and the truck entered reduced power mode. It immediately slowed the truck without warning - which made for a very dangerous situation for all of the vehicles behind me and for my vehicle. After getting the vehicle and trailer to a dealer, disconnecting the trailer, and then getting the truck in the shop, the dealer defined the OBDII code as being P06DD - Engine oil pressure control solenoid valve stuck off. The vehicle has experienced repeated failures associated with diagnostic trouble code P06DD. When the condition occurs, the vehicle is unable to exceed approximately 3,500 RPM and experiences engine stalling and loss of power while driving. The issue is intermittent but has occurred repeatedly. The vehicle has been presented to authorized Dodge/Stellantis dealerships on five separate occasions for diagnosis and repair. The oil pump was previously replaced for this issue at approximately 5,000 miles, yet the condition continues to recur. Most recently, the dealership advised that the issue was resolved and returned the vehicle to me. Within approximately 30 minutes of leaving the dealership…

On vehicles with the 3.6l Pentastar engine, the oil pump fails before 150,000 miles causing DTC P06DD to trip which instantly puts the vehicle into "Limp Mode". This immediately cuts down the power to the engine which slows everything down potentially causing you to be hit by other traffic. It also causes a hefty repair bill. This is a very common issue known to the repair shops and dealers. My family has a 2012 Dodge Journey with this engine. A local and well known mechanic shop performed extensive diagnostics and confirmed this issue. The repair took hours to complete. The repair shop did replace other parts that could potentially cause this problem, however, it did not resolve the issue…

Which cars get code P06DD most often?

In NHTSA owner complaints, P06DD is mentioned most for the GMC Sierra (5), Chevrolet Silverado (4), Dodge Charger (4), across 15 models and model years 2012 to 2025. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.

Is there a recall for code P06DD?

No NHTSA recall text names P06DD directly. 8 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Engine); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What should I do if my car shows P06DD?

Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.

How this page was made

CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P06DD. Manufacturer codes have no public standard definition, so CarHooq shows only what owners reported. Nothing here is a diagnosis.
