While driving my car started skipping from first to second gear and then lowering acceleration. When at a complete stop car would not accelerate and just revs through first and second gear making a pinging clicking sound. Brought to dealership to be told codes p0702 and code p0734 were reading. I've had the car one year and has been maintained. Before I got the diagnosis I drove to the dealership there was no lights on even though there was the issue and then right as I pulled in the transmission light check came on. This problem has been confirmed by Ford dealership from transmission and engine diagnostic. Not being able to accelerate at a green light put my safety at risk.

I have a critical safety issue with the 2016 F150 truck I bought from Cavalier Ford, Chesapeake VA. The issue is the 6R80 automatic transmission unexpectedly changes gears while driving. In my case the truck down shifted from high gear to low gear on the interstate while driving about 70 miles per hour. I was fortunate no other cars were near me. My truck almost came to a stop, no brake lights displayed. This occurred the week on Jul 6 2021. It has occurred multiple times since than as well. I had the battery checked, showed bad, and bought a new one Jul 9th. I also had the "Check Engine" light scanned at Autozone. It revealed codes P0706/707, ie Range Sensor inside the transmission. I…

I bought my 2016 Ford Fiesta in 2019 at 49k miles. Since I have had my car, my car battery would die randomly and my car would fail to detect my key. Recently, when my car hit about 98k miles, my car died again and I needed to buy another new battery. Once the battery was replaced, the “service transmission now” sign began to show on the dash. My car will refuse to accelerate past 35 mph and will slow down to 0 mph. Found this out the hard way, on the freeway. My mechanic said I need a Transmission Control Module but the dealerships say the part I need is on back order. Another mechanic said the part itself is faulty and to NOT BUY another TCM. These are the following codes that returned on…

The technician wrote "Checked PTSS cases and checked for related LI documents. Found LI-47.50-p-070263 which states that software is under development for this issue. no software available at this time. Cleared code and released back to customer." P0702: questions drivers ask

What does code P0702 mean?

P0702 is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. Its standard definition is "Transmission Control System Electrical". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 4 car models.

Which cars get code P0702 most often?

In NHTSA owner complaints, P0702 is mentioned most for the Ford Focus (2), Ford F-150 (1), Ford Fiesta (1), across 4 models and model years 2014 to 2022. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.

Is there a recall for code P0702?

No NHTSA recall text names P0702 directly. 2 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Electrical System); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What should I do if my car shows P0702?

Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.

How this page was made

CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P0702 (including sub-code forms such as P070263). The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Data: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (public domain), retrieved November 3, 2026. How CarHooq reports are made.
