SUPPLEMENTAL DEFECT REPORT ATTACHMENT Original NHTSA Complaint ID: [Case#11770807]/[Case #11772091] Vehicle suffered an identical uncommanded rear-wheel lockup and immediate drop to a low gear at highway speeds in October 2025. Kendall Ford replaced a Gateway Module rather than the transmission molded leadframe. The vehicle is now displaying active codes P0715 and P0717, which Ford Corporate is using to deny coverage under Recall 26S28. Ford is actively excluding P0715/P0717 input sensor codes from the recall, despite the component being physically identical and resulting in the exact same violent highway lockup hazard.
VEHICLE: 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, VIN [XXX] DEFECT: Transmission suddenly, violently downshifts from a high gear to a much lower gear with no driver input, at highway speed. Causes RPM spike, violent jerking, Check Engine Light, loss of vehicle control. Occurred 5 times. Not fixed despite 4 dealer repairs, 61 days out of service. 5/12/26 - 1st failure, 70+ mph on I-5, stuck in low gear. 5/14-6/8/26 - Repair 1, Bud Clary Chevrolet: valve body solenoid replaced. 6/13/26 - 2nd failure days later, Hwy 12 (no cell service), spouse + [XXX] infant in vehicle, forced to keep driving to reach safety. 6/13-6/17/26 - Repair 2, Harvest Chevrolet: same fault codes; valve body connector found loose…
The affected systems are the power train, engine, and electrical. My 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe experienced failures consistent with GM Technical Service Bulletin 21-NA-149 (engine wiring harness chafing) and the conditions outlined in Recall N232404190 (valve body failure, November 2024). Beginning in March 2025, the vehicle displayed warning lights and messages including Check Engine, Traction Control, Service Transmission, and limp mode (Reduced Acceleration – Drive with Care). The vehicle shifted erratically, lost power, and occasionally failed to accelerate, creating a serious safety hazard at highway speeds. These problems were documented at AutoNation Chevrolet South Clearwater, where…
While driving the vehicle on 27 September 2023 the check engine/transmission light came on, and the vehicle down shifted and loss the ability to accelerate, started to drive rough causing a safety hazard in traffic. Took the vehicle to the dealership Southern (formerly Hall) Chevrolet Chesapeake, VA where purchased because I have an extended warranty. Diagnostic was performed, which idendified codes P0776, P0717, P0700. Technician states vehicle is not driveable and needs a new transmission. The vehicle is a 2019 Siverado 1500 LTZ Z71 Crew Cab with approximately 90,290+ miles.
WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL THE RPMS SHOOT UP BUT CAR EXCELERATES SLOWLY. IT JERKS HARD WHEN SWITCHING TO ANOTHER GEAR AND TAKES SEVERAL MINUTES TO FINALLY GET TO A SAFE SPEED. SOMETIMES THE CAR STRUGGLES TO GO UPHILL AND HARDLY ABLE TO REVERSE. DEALERSHIP CLEARED MY ENGINE CODES DURING MY LAST OIL CHANGE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON A WEEK LATER, AUTOZONE PULLED 3 CODES (P0700, P0300 AND P0717). CHANGED MY SPARK PLUGS, USED LUCAS OIL/5.25 OZ. FUEL TREATMENT TWICE BUT STILL NO CHANGE. SOMETIMES I CAN SMELL BURNING RUBBER. THIS PROBLEM MAKES IT HARD TO SAFELY MERGE ONTO HIGHWAYS AND GET THROUGH TRAFFIC LIGHTS FAST ENOUGH. NOW AUTOZONE HAS ACCIDENTALLY CLEARED MY CODES SO I CAN'T SEE IF ANY…
My 2016 Expedition has the same 6R80 transmission as the Ford F150, for which there is a recall for the Lead Frame. My wife was driving the vehicle on the highway and the check engine light came on and the vehicle went into "limp mode" causing the vehicle to decelerate to approximately 35 mph. Needless to say, she almost caused several accidents as she tried to move to the shoulder at a very reduced speed. The code was P0715 and P0717 which is the Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor which is part of the lead frame in the transmission. As stated before, there was a recall on this issue with the F150 but not to the Expedition since Ford did not sell as many Expeditions as F150's? I was able to have the…
Drove car out of driveway, after driving approximately 150-200 feet the dashboard wrench icon ( powertrain problem ) illuminated and car went into limp mode. Read MIL codes, had codes P0715, Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction and P0717, Input/Turbine Speed Sensor No Signal. Traced wiring problem to connector in front of drivers side shock tower. This connector is the connector between the PCM and and the transmission. The connector was causing an open on the conductors, causing the lack of TSS signal. There were no symptoms or intermittent problems prior to this - it happened suddenly. Had been on an interstate hiway the day prior to this, am glad this ( going into limp mode )…
My 2018 Ford Transit 250 experienced a failure of the Input/Turbine Speed Sensor in the 6R80 transmission’s mechatronic lead frame at approximately 60,000 miles. The failure was confirmed by an authorized Ford service department, which retrieved DTC codes P0715-00 and P0717-00. These codes indicate that the turbine speed sensor signal is lost, forcing the transmission into limp mode, causing loss of power and erratic shifting. This is a serious safety concern, it can occur suddenly while driving and results in loss of proper gear control. Relation to Recall 19S07 Ford has already acknowledged this same defect in other vehicles using the 6R80 transmission. In Safety Recall 19S07, Ford…
Erratic shifting, sudden down shifts while at highway speed, and transmission suddenly stuck in 3 or 5th gear, ford currently has customer satisfaction program 26n04 covering certain 2015-2017 ford f150 trucks but specifies only certain codes to flag the need to fix the problem by changing the molded lead frame which is the defective part. Unfortunately my truck is not tripping those codes but it is showing codes p0715,p0717,p0720 that all call for the molded lead frame to be changed. The problem is codes, p0720,0722, where covered in previous recall 24S37, for f150 tucks made in 2014 with the exact same transmission and molded lead frame. So my problem is why in the previous recall where…
The primary failure is in the electronic transmission control system and engine wiring harness assembly, specifically throwing diagnostic trouble codes P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction) and P0717 (Input Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal). The authorized dealership identified a critical issue with the engine harness chafing, but their subsequent repair attempts have failed to resolve the recurring powertrain failure. The complete vehicle and all affected components are currently parked and fully available for immediate physical inspection at my residence upon request. While operating the vehicle at highway speeds, the powertrain abruptly loses throttle response and forces itself…
P0717: questions drivers ask
What does code P0717 mean?
P0717 is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. Its standard definition is "Input/Turbine Speed Sensor 'A' Circuit No Signal". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 8 car models.
Which cars get code P0717 most often?
In NHTSA owner complaints, P0717 is mentioned most for the Ford F-150 (8), Chevrolet Silverado (3), Chevrolet Tahoe (3), across 8 models and model years 2012 to 2024. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.
Is there a recall for code P0717?
No NHTSA recall text names P0717 directly. 8 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Power Train); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
What should I do if my car shows P0717?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P0717. The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis.
