Check engine light on with Powertrain Malfunction / REduced Power notification on myford pass app. Scanned with OBD scanner and it has code P0929
My 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor V6, a brand-new vehicle purchased on [XXX], has accumulated 767 miles. On the evening of [XXX] in Orange County, California, while driving on the freeway at approximately 75 miles per hour, I experienced an unexpected issue. Everything appeared normal, and there were no warning lights on the instrument cluster indicating any problems with the truck. However, a few miles before exiting the freeway, I received a message through the Ford Pass App, accompanied by a warning on the instrument cluster that read, “Drivetrain malfunction, reduced power.” Despite the warning, I continued driving cautiously until I reached my home. Upon pulling into my driveway, I scanned my…
Car will not shift out of Park and getting an error message of "P0929.00-A Gear Shift Lock Solenoid/Actuator Circuit A Range/Performance". There appears to be an issue with the gear shift module, and many others are experiencing the same issue. This issue could cause the driver to be stranded wherever the car decides to lock up. Anytime the driver puts the car in Park, it may not shift out of it again. Issue was experienced and confirmed at a local repair shop.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Maverick. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the power train warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to shift into the intended gear. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and decelerated to approximately 55 MPH. The contact stated that upon releasing and depressing the accelerator pedal again, the vehicle responded as needed. For 6 months, after a routine visit and safety recall preformed by ford, I have had an issue with the park brake engaging on its own. When pressing the button to disengage it, the car would not disengage and would remain locked. The only way to disengage it would be to throw the car into reverse, press the button to disengage the park brake and step on the gas pedal as fast as you could. After 6 months of trying to diagnose the issue, ford pittsville came up inconclusive, replacing multiple parts of the e-brake such as the buttons themselves, the wires connecting the brakes, and checking over the brakes. The issue itself was unrecreatable but the only common denominator was remote starting…
The contact owns a 2023 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the "Service Vehicle Soon" message was displayed. The contact used a diagnostic scanner to retrieve DTC: P0929. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the gear shift module (GSM) was faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure had occurred twice, and the GSM Module had been replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
The vehicle is just under 37K miles. I was operating the vehicle normally, and the wrench icon came on, indicating a powertrain issue. There are recalls for this for some vehicles but not all, and it seems to occur just after warranties expiring. I am concerned my vehicle falls under this service bulletin but has not been properly added: SSM 49157 - 2020 Escape - Illuminated MIL With DTCs U0100, U0401, P166B, P1753, P0929, And/Or P0919 Some 2020 Escape vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) U0100, U0401, P166B, P1753, P0929, and/or P0919. The vehicle may also exhibit an illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator…
P0929: questions drivers ask
What does code P0929 mean?
P0929 is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. Its standard definition is "Gear Shift Lock Solenoid Control Circuit Range/Performance". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 4 car models.
Which cars get code P0929 most often?
In NHTSA owner complaints, P0929 is mentioned most for the Ford Escape (3), Ford F-150 (2), Ford Fusion (1), across 4 models and model years 2017 to 2024. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.
Is there a recall for code P0929?
No NHTSA recall text names P0929 directly. 7 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Power Train); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
What should I do if my car shows P0929?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P0929 (including sub-code forms such as P092977). The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Data: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (public domain), retrieved November 3, 2026. How CarHooq reports are made.
