While driving received recurring check engine light for p2127/p2138 code. Has been to Quirk Chevrolet twice previously for same issue, drives fine for a week or two and light comes back. Third service appointment scheduled for Monday 6/7/21. Recurring issue has made vehicle unusable while effected as car goes into limp mode while in motion limiting speeds to 25mph which was interesting to say the least as it happens while in motion.
I HAVE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH MY NEW 2012 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 LT (5.3 LITER ENGINE) GOING INTO "REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE" WHICH ALSO RESULTS IN THE DISABLING OF STABILITY CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION IN THAT IT RESULTS IN A LOSS OF POWER WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE UPON THE ROADWAY. AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR FACILITY HAS REPLACED THE NUMBER ONE AND TWO THROTTLE SENSORS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY, THE THROTTLE BODY, THE ALTERNATOR, THE COMPUTER, AND A LARGE GROUND WIRE BEHIND THE DASH. A GM ENGINEER WAS FLOWN IN AND NOW THE REPAIR CENTER IS REPLACING THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. THE VEHICLE (WHICH WAS PURCHASED LESS THAN THREE MONTHS AGO) HAS BEEN OUT…
DRIVING CAR NORMALLY. I PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AND WENT INTO A STORE. WHEN I CAME OUT TO START THE CAR IT WOULD NOT START. CHARGING INDICATOR LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AUTO ZONE WAS IN THE PLAZA SO I HAD THE GUY COME OUT AND DO A DIAGNOSTIC. CODES WERE P0123, P2122, P2127, P0222, U0401. WHEN THE GUY WENT BACK INTO THE STORE THE CAR STARTED. WHEN I PARKED AGAIN 10 MINUTES LATER THE CHECK ENGINE AND CHARGE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. CAR RAN FINE FOR ONE DAY. ABOUT 33 HOURS AFTER THAT INCIDENT I PARKED THE CAR AT A PARK FOR LUNCH FROM WORK. TOOK A WALK AND WHEN I RETURNED CAR NEVER CAME ON. DASH WAS FLICKERING, ALL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, MILEAGE WAS FLASHING, GAUGES WERE FLICKERING, CAR WOULD…

CRUISING TO WORK ON I-93 IN CONCORD, NH TRAVELING AROUND 70 MPH AND IT JUST LOST POWER AGAIN!!! THE "REDUCE ENGINE POWER LIGHT" CAME ON AND VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO 25-30 MPH. THANKFULLY THERE WASN'T A VEHICLE BEHIND ME. I WOULD HAVE BEEN "KILLED". DROPPED VEHICLE TO CHEVY DEALER. THEY FOUND P2127 FOR ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR FAILURE, REPLACED GAS PEDAL, CLEARED CODES, ROAD TESTES. MILEAGE 76,473. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY UNSAFE AND UNACCEPTABLE. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN FOR THE FOURTH TIME, SAME ISSUE. I WILL REPORT EACH INCIDENT SEPARATELY. *TR

ENGINE POWER REDUCED. ENGINE POWER REDUCED. AT FIRST IT SEEMED TO HAPPEN WHEN IT WAS RAINING, BUT ON DRY DAYS NO PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, AND DISAPPEARS A FEW HOURS LATER. THE DEALERSHIP ACTS AS IF THEY CAN'T TELL YOU ANYTHING ONCE THE WARNING AND ENGINE LIGHT TURN OFF. LATELY IT'S BEEN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY, SO I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT READ. ERROR CODES P2138 AND P2127, BOTH REFERENCING THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY COMPLAINT I SEE ON HERE. I ALSO HAVE READ ABOUT LAW SUITS BEING FILED REGARDING THIS AS WELL.
I PURCHASED A 2017 CHEVY MALIBU IN APRIL 2017 WITH 11 MILES. IN LESS THAN A MONTH, THE CAR STARTED HAVING ISSUES. TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION WITH THE INITIAL PROBLEM BEING THE O2 SENSOR THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE AND IT WAS NOTED GM WOULD MONITOR THE CONCERN AND HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE. THE PROBLEMS ARE AS FOLLOWS: DASHBOARD GOES BLANK WHILE DRIVING, CODES: P0036, P0037, P0138, P0141, P2097 X3; P2122, P2127, P2138, ACCELERATOR PEDAL REPLACED X3 WITHIN A TWO MONTH TIME FRAME WITH THROTTLE HARNESS BEING REPLACED ON THE THIRD TIME, REDUCED ENGINE POWER TO 20 MPH WHILE DRIVING, SCANNING NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE WHILE VEHICLE IS BOTH IN THE ON/OFF POSITION; STILL…
P2127: questions drivers ask
What does code P2127 mean?
P2127 is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. Its standard definition is "Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'E' Circuit Low Input". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 6 car models.
Which cars get code P2127 most often?
In NHTSA owner complaints, P2127 is mentioned most for the Chevrolet Malibu (5), Chevrolet Silverado (1), Dodge Dart (1), across 6 models and model years 2012 to 2018. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.
Is there a recall for code P2127?
No NHTSA recall text names P2127 directly. 4 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Electrical System); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
What should I do if my car shows P2127?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P2127 (including sub-code forms such as P212782). The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Data: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (public domain), retrieved November 3, 2026. How CarHooq reports are made.
