While driving my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the braking system suddenly malfunctioned without any prior warning. When I released the accelerator, the vehicle began slowing as though the brakes were being applied even though I was not pressing the brake pedal. When I attempted to brake normally, the vehicle did not stop as expected and braking ability was significantly reduced. The red BRAKE warning, ABS warning, traction/ESC warnings, and check engine light illuminated. The dashboard displayed “Brake System Failure – 43 MPH Top Speed,” “Service ESC,” and “Service Trailer Brake System.” Because of the reduced braking ability, I stopped the vehicle and had it transported by flatbed tow to…
Was Driving my 2019 silverado home and a warning light came on said service ESC and something about speed is set to 45mph max. Then the truck would not go.I pulled over and tried to figure out what was going on. Luckly I was able to make it home got out my code reader and check the codes they were P25A2 and C053D. I have looked up these codes I see them all over the internet other people are having them as well. I checked for recalls I dont see any for this issue. Are there any fix for this issue?
I was traveling north on interstate 95 and approaching my exit ramp. I was initially in the inside lane of travel. I accelerated to merge into the outside lane, between two other vehicles, and then onto the exit ramp. Once on the exit ramp, I let off of the throttle and the engine suddenly shut down. I noticed a message on driver information center instructing me to shift the vehicle into neutral and press "start again". The engine had shut down without any warning whatsoever. I complied with the instructions to no avail. The truck is over half full of fuel. I was within an hour of home after completing an approximately 8 hour, 500 mile, round trip over 2 days of driving. After this event, I…

On August 6, 2026, I was driving my family up to Whitefish Mountain Resort (a steep mountain road to a ski resort) for dinner when the ESC warning and "Brake System Failure" warning appeared. I immediately attempted to pull safely to the side of the road. When I pressed the brake pedal, the vehicle did not respond normally. I pushed the brake pedal as far down as I could and had essentially no braking ability. Because we were traveling uphill, the vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. When my brother came with his car he had a vehicle scanning tool. He hooked my vehicle up to it and the tool displayed diagnostic codes P25A2 and P3499. This was an extremely serious safety event. Had we been…
The vehicle is registered to me; my mother was the driver at the time of the failure. At ~2,963 miles, the truck developed intermittent check engine and ABS warning lights. The dealer pulled DTC C058A (brake system control module) and P25A2. Per GM bulletin PIT6012A, the battery was replaced and a brake plunger motor sensor learn was performed. The same codes returned within weeks. The dealer then diagnosed internal failure of the brake master cylinder and reservoir, documented the vehicle as "unsafe to drive," and replaced both under warranty. The truck sat at the dealer over six weeks due to a nationwide parts backorder. Repairs were completed April 4, 2025. On May 2, 2025, at ~6,500…
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle failed to turn off. The “Shift to Park” message was displayed. Additionally, after the vehicle was parked and the engine was turned off, the vehicle independently started. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer as per the manufacturer's request. However, the vehicle was not inspected. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where the portable diagnostic tester was attached to the vehicle. The diagnostic machine retrieved DTC: U0073, P0700, P25A2, U0101,U0129,U0146, U18D5, U18D7, U2413, U0073-00…
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. While the contact’s wife was driving approximately 5 MPH, the brakes independently activated while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The ABS, traction control, check engine, collision avoidance, and other unknown warning lights illuminated. An audible alert chimed erroneously without a pedestrian nearby. Due to the failure, the contact’s chest struck the steering wheel. A passenger seated in the front passenger’s side seat experienced mental distress. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and DTC: P053D, C055F, P25A2, and 25NA240 were retrieved. The vehicle was repaired under warranty; however, the failure persisted…
FAILURE SUMMARY & SAFETY RISK: While operating in live traffic, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of motive power and entered a "Propulsion Power Reduced" failsafe mode, creating a severe rear-end collision hazard. The vehicle is currently grounded and remains available for inspection upon request. WARNING SYMPTOMS & DIAGNOSTIC CODES: The instrument cluster illuminated the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (Check Engine), the ABS warning indicator, and displayed a persistent "Propulsion Power Is Reduced" message. A diagnostic trouble scan confirmed active high-voltage communication failures and powertrain faults: U2603 (Lost Communication with Hybrid/EV Battery Interface Control Module), P25A2…

What should I do if my car shows P25A2?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P25A2. Manufacturer codes have no public standard definition, so CarHooq shows only what owners reported. Nothing here is a diagnosis.
