The Transmission failed. Before the mechanical light went on. As I was driving the vehicle it was having issues switching gears. And at times would loose power and then rev up and speed up. Loss of power and speeding up is a dangerous and frightening situation in a vehicle going at any speed and even more so while traveling on a highway. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealership. In speaking with the service manager they recommended replacing the transmission due to the error codes that were produced in the computer. They stated that this was a common issue in this make and model and a replacement would be the best option to avoid future issues. And after researching the issue…

Transmission went out at 65,000 miles. Son was inn the middle of traffic got a message the stop driving immediately and the car started running rough. two codes P2703 and P2704. these are for solenoids. Had trouble getting out of traffic and off the road and almost got hit by another car. He was able to lug across multiple lanes to pull over on the side of the road. This happened at night and the road is busy. Ford has told us that the transmission is an 'enclosed system' and the entire transmission has to be replaced. Due to the enclosed system there is no way to check the transmission fluid levels, etc. The transmission breaking came out of no where and is not related to the transmission…

At approximately 75,520 miles, the coolant level was again documented as requiring attention. At approximately 84,189 miles, the vehicle experienced low coolant, low oil, white/gray smoke and rough running. Manteca Ford identified Ford TSB 22-2322 and ultimately performed a major short-block replacement. Despite this major engine repair, mechanical and drivability problems continued. At approximately 101,375 miles, we returned the vehicle to Manteca Ford specifically for loss of power and hesitation. The Ford…

While driving from [XXX] to [XXX] on XXX my 2021 Ford Ranger's dash light came on and I noticed harsh shifting and the vehicle began jolting unpredictably while I was driving at highway speeds. To avoid imminent danger, I pulled off the 101 and slowly drove to the closest Ford dealership, Vista Ford Lincoln of [XXX], in order to have the truck assessed. Technicians performed a diagnostic evaluation and retrieved DTC P0766 (shift solenoid "D" performance/stuck off) and P2703 (transmission friction element "D" apply time.) These codes are the documented engineering signature of internal CDF clutch drum bushing migration- a known, widespread manufacturing defect inherent to Ford's 10R80…

On my way home from work on 5/29 while driving on the freeway my 2019 Ford F150 with 79k miles on it began to shift weird and feel like the transmission was slipping. I got off on my exit and stopped at the stop light at which point my truck shuddered and shut off flashing an "Auto Stop/Start, put the vehicle in park and restart engine" warning. The light turned green and I restarted the engine and it shuddered and died again with the same warning. I restarted the engine and it seemed to work. I decided to drive the last 1 miler to my house. The next morning I took the truck to the Ford dealership. On my way the truck was hard downshifting, knocking, and then went into limp mode in the…

P2703: questions drivers ask

What does code P2703 mean?

P2703 is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. Its standard definition is "Transmission Friction Element 'D' Apply Time Range/Performance". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 4 car models.

Which cars get code P2703 most often?

In NHTSA owner complaints, P2703 is mentioned most for the Ford F-150 (4), Ford Escape (2), Ford Fusion (1), across 4 models and model years 2017 to 2021. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.

Is there a recall for code P2703?

No NHTSA recall text names P2703 directly. 6 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Power Train); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

What should I do if my car shows P2703?

Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.

How this page was made

CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of P2703. The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis.
