This is a corrected supplement to my prior NHTSA complaints #XXX and #XXX for the 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid, VIN [XXX]. It corrects the mileage in # XXX: the odometer at the XXX collision was approximately 68,000 miles (a current reading was auto-populated into the incident field on the prior form), and the vehicle's current odometer is 119,379 miles. I request that the Office of Defects Investigation open a Preliminary Evaluation of the Maverick Hybrid braking/ABS system. On September 30, 2026, at 9:43 PM, the vehicle lost power on the road, nearly causing a rear-end collision. I have videos documenting six incidents between September 30 and October 15, 2026. This dangerous problem has continued since May 2025. Briarwood Ford has attempted repairs seven times, including replacing the accelerator pedal twice and replacing or…

I was still in Drive when the car started coasting and when I stepped on the gas, all it did was revved. I had to Coast into the left turning lane and came to a stop as I tried to put it in park I could hear a whirring noise coming from under the dash as if the parking break button was pressed. I could not get it out of Drive and I tried putting it in neutral then back to drive then into neutral but could not get the car to move. Finally was able to get…

U0418: questions drivers ask
What does code U0418 mean?
U0418 is a generic OBD-II network code. Its standard definition is "Invalid Data Received From Brake System Control Module". The code tells you which system set the fault, not which part failed; the owner reports on this page show what it meant in practice for 12 car models.
Which cars get code U0418 most often?
In NHTSA owner complaints, U0418 is mentioned most for the Ford Maverick (4), Chrysler Pacifica (2), Ford Bronco (2), across 12 models and model years 2014 to 2025. Popular models collect more reports because more of them are on the road.
Is there a recall for code U0418?
No NHTSA recall text names U0418 directly. 8 recalls on the cars that report this code concern the same component owners name most (Electrical System); they may or may not relate to the code. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
What should I do if my car shows U0418?
Write down when the code appeared and what the car did (warning lights, loss of power, noises, speed, weather). Check your VIN for open recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls, ask a dealer or independent workshop to read the stored freeze-frame data before anyone clears the code, and keep the repair order. If the car loses power in traffic, stop driving it. CarHooq does not diagnose: these are owner reports and official recall notices, not repair advice.
How this page was made
CarHooq read the text of every owner complaint filed with NHTSA for 19 US and European brands (model years 2012 onwards) and picked out the diagnostic trouble codes owners wrote down. This page lists every mention of U0418 (including sub-code forms such as U041800). The definition is the generic SAE J2012 wording; a carmaker may use the code slightly differently. Nothing here is a diagnosis. Data: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (public domain), retrieved November 3, 2026. How CarHooq reports are made.
